How To Do UV Spot Varnishing and Cold Stamping on Uncoated Wine Label Paper?

It's very big challenge to get UV spot varnishing and cold foil stamping on uncoated wine label paper by digital UV inkjet machine.

The "ink absorption problem" usually manifests in two extremes: First, the paper absorbs ink (varnish) too quickly, resulting in insufficient adhesive retention on the surface, making it difficult for the hot stamping foil to adhere or causing it to easily peel off; second, when using non-absorbent specialty paper, the ink/varnish adhesion is poor (low dyne value), leading to blurred edges or bubbling.

How to solve the ink absorption problem by wine label material ?

 For highly absorbent art paper:

To address "rapid ink absorption/bleed-through," apply a primer beforehand: Before digital foil stamping, apply a primer (water-based or UV-specific primer) to the entire label paper or a specific area. The primer seals the capillaries on the paper surface, preventing the digital varnish from sinking and forming a dense printing layer.

Increase ink output/multiple overprints: Adjust the digital prepress software (such as RIP software) to increase the ink output of the digital varnish (Glue/Varnish) channels in the hot stamping area, or use multiple passes to build up the varnish thickness.

Use high-viscosity digital varnish: Replace with a digital hot stamping adhesive or varnish with better thixotropy, higher solids content, and less downward penetration.

EcooSpark is the digital UV inkjet roll label varnishing and cold foiling machine, it takes the unique UV Piezo DoD(drop on demand)-inkjet head with the high viscosity digital varnish, can make the spot varnishing and cold foiling successfully.
